David Garrett continues his reign on the top of the Billboard Classical Crossover Chart since the release of his self-titled Decca disc, David Garrett. Most recently he paid homage to the late Michael Jackson with his own interpretation of “Smooth Criminal” on CNN.com. The clip subsequently spread like wildfire over the internet, getting picked up on dozens of popular blogs including The Huffington Post among others. CNN correspondent Shannon Cook noted David played “with such fervor that you’d think Jackson intended the song to be performed by the instrument all along.” The violinist had incorporated the tune into his live show last year, in addition to having recorded it for his disc. David’s unique rendition has now morphed into a fitting, and rousing tribute to the late “King of Pop.” To view his performance and interview on CNN.com, click here: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/07/16/david.garrett/ Major media outlets have spread the word on David Garrett’s singular brand of violin playing.
